International Silver Stick® Brampton Regional
The International Silver Stick® Association was founded by Jack Kinsella in Ottawa in 1957. The purpose of the venture was to further International Relations between Peewee and Bantam age players from the Ottawa area and New York State . The theme of the entire program is to promote citizenship and goodwill through the medium of Silver Stick® hockey, and to foster sportsmanship through international competition for youth of all nations.
Regional Tournaments are held throughout North America in areas reaching from Oregon , Colorado , Nevada , Texas , Alabama and Maryland . The main concentration of Regional Tournaments are held in Ontario and the North Central United States.
The winning teams from the Regionals then vie for top honours at the Silver Stick® Finals where they compete against the winners from the other Regionals.
The Brampton Regional Silver Stick® is one of the largest and longest running Silver Stick® Regional Qualifying Tournaments. The origins of the Brampton Regional Silver Stick® started back in 1971 when an application to host a regional was made to Silver Stick® by Bill Williams, President of the Chinguacousy Minor Hockey Association. Discussions and meetings continued into June of 1972 when delegates from the C.M.H.A. met will officials of Silver Stick® in Toronto and the C.M.H.A. was accepted as a Regional Representative for Silver Stick® International. The Lions Club accepted the offer to sponsor the tournament along with the C.M.H.A. Bill was appointed as the Regional Director for the South Central Ontario Region and John Macumber was appointed Tournament Director.
For the inaugural Brampton Regional Silver Stick® games were played in the AA, A and B Divisions in all age categories with the exception of Juvenile. In 1973 the C.M.H.A. accepted AAA divisions as the association's rating with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association had moved from AA to AAA.
Under the guidance of Tournament Director Bernie Dowling, the Brampton Regional Silver Stick® soon became the largest tournament in Silver Stick® with 154 teams participating. Bill became an International Director with Silver Stick® and served as Commissioner of Silver Stick® from 1985 to 1987. John Macumber moved on to Owen Sound where he developed a Silver Stick® Regional that continues to this day.
In 1998 the Brampton Minor Hockey Association and the Chinguacousy Minor Hockey Association amalgamated to form the Brampton Youth Hockey Association. The Brampton Regional Silver Stick® has continued under the guidance of the BYHA since 1998. The tournament now features teams in the major age divisions from Novice to Midget that are in the AA and A classifications.

Jason Abraham Memorial Tournament
The Jason Abraham Memorial Tournament is a AAA tournament for teams from Minor Atom to Minor Bantam.
Jason Abraham affectionately known as “Abes” by his team mates and friends was a graduate of the Chinguacousy Minor Hockey Association which is now part of the Brampton Youth Hockey Association.
Jason was a fine example of why all children should play sports. It taught him so much in his life. He was a team player and captain virtually every year. Most importantly Jason was a team player and a gentleman on the ice, respecting the referees and his opponents. He was proud to represent the City of Brampton at all the tournaments in which he participated in and the cities in which he played. He had the opportunity to play for the Bramalea Blues Junior A hockey team and was respected enough by his team mates to be captain in his last two years.
After his minor hockey days, Jason went on to Mount Allison University where he played hockey for the Mounties and graduated with a business degree. He said while at University the most fun he ever had was playing hockey with his friends on a frozen pond. As a child he never had that chance just to play hockey the way the game was intended to be – merely an outdoor activity for kids of all ages with no rules, referees or parents. If your child has never had the chance to lace up the blades and skate across a frozen pond, then make sure this winter they experience this feeling and they will know what Jason meant.
Jason should be remembered as a man and a boy who enjoyed life to the fullest. He touched so may people's lives all from a simple game called hockey. In his final weeks battling cancer, his friends and team mates stood by his side for his toughest battle. The courage that he showed us continues to inspire all who knew him.

Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament
The Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament is held on the first weekend of December each year. The tournament is for Select Teams in the 6 and 7 year old age divisions and for many players this will be the first tournament that they will participate in.
Robert Giroux, better known as Coach Bob, was a man that dedicated his life to hockey. Bob was involved with Coaching Hockey in the Chinguacousy and Brampton Minor/Youth associations for approximately 30 years. During and after hic Police Career with Toronto Police, Bob spent countless hours volunteering at the rinks. He was always the first to be at the rink and the last to leave.
Bob had many roles during his involvement with minor hockey. Bob was a Coach, a Mentor , an Executive and Committee member and the co-coordinator of the Brampton Youth Hockey Association Hockey School and Mini Troopers. Bob's main goals in his many roles were to make sure that every player left the rink with a smile on their face and to ensure that every player had the best hockey experience that he could offer. The current Select 6 and Select 7 programs that operate in the BYHA were created by Bob.
Bob was and is Brampton Minor Hockey. The BYHA is pleased to continue to honour Bob's memory by hosting the Bob Giroux Memorial Tournament.
Thanks for everything Coach Bob! We miss you!
